Daniel 4:10 "Thus [were] the
visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the
earth, and the height thereof [was] great."
This is a night vision, or perhaps, a
dream. In dreams, trees sometimes mean men. This, of course, is speaking of
Nebuchadnezzar, himself, who has found such greatness as king of Babylon.
Daniel 4:11 "The tree grew, and
was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof
to the end of all the earth:"
We see in this, that Nebuchadnezzar
had become great, not only in his own land, but in many other countries that he
had conquered, as well.
Daniel 4:12 "The leaves thereof
[were] fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it [was] meat for all: the beasts
of the field had shadow under it, and the fowls of the heaven dwelt in the
boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed of it."
This great land under the rule of
Nebuchadnezzar had flourished. God had used them to win battles against His
beloved Israel.
They had brought great wealth and many people back with them as captives.
It seemed
everything they did prospered. There was plenty of food for the captives, as
well as for the Babylonians.
